SENATOR COMMENDS AUTHORITIES FOR APPREHENDING FOREIGNER WANTED FOR CHILD RAPE
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian commended the National Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Immigration for their successful operation in apprehending a Swedish national wanted for child rape in his home country.
The arrest highlights the ongoing threat of child trafficking to the safety of Filipino minors, Gatchalian said.
“This arrest is a stark reminder that child trafficking remains a serious issue, endangering our children,” Gatchalian stated.
“I commend the NBI and BI for their swift action in preventing a potential case of child trafficking. We must stay vigilant to protect our youth from exploitation,” he added.
The senator also urged BI and police authorities to strengthen border control measures to prevent sex offenders from entering the Philippines.
“We must collaborate with other nations to enhance information-sharing and tighten security protocols. The Philippines should not become a haven for child abuse,” he stressed.
Gatchalian condemned the involvement of a Filipina facilitator who allegedly helped the Swedish national exploit minors.
“She must be tracked down and arrested. Anyone who aids in the abuse and exploitation of children is just as guilty and must face the full force of the law,” the senator said.
Gatchalian’s statement comes as the country faces growing concerns about child trafficking, with authorities working tirelessly to prevent such incidents.
