SENATOR BAFFLED BY CRIME REPORTS
SENATOR Imee Marcos on Thursday admitted that she was baffled by the conflicting number of police reports on cases of kidnapping, abductions, disappearances and the recent spate of crimes against students.
“Talagang nalilito po kami, I wrote a resolution very early on last August given the number of crimes against women as early as Aug. 21,” Marcos said during the Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs hearing.
Marcos said the Philippine National Police recorded a total of 149 crimes against students, however, acts of lasciviousness and other minor offenses were not included in the list.
What’s more confusing, the senator added, was the over-all report of the PNP that said that the number of index and non-index crime declined.
She also cited reports indicating that 56 kidnappings involved Chinese.
“Which of these are true and why is it reported that while crime rate has fallen, our citizens are very afraid,” Marcos stressed.
“Gayundin sa City homes sa Cagayan de Oro, ang balita sa Xavier university sa nerbyos ay nag-full online classes na ulit sapagkat maraming balita na kinikidnap at sinasaktan ang mga kabataan,” she said.
