SENATOR BACKS TEACHER EDUCATION REFORMS, COMMITS BUDGET SUPPORT
SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday expressed strong support for ongoing reforms in teacher education and vowed to allocate funding to further strengthen these initiatives.
Gatchalian, principal author and sponsor of the Excellence in Teacher Education Act or Republic Act No. 11713, commended the Teacher Education Council for pushing forward key reforms.
These include the reframing of the pre-service curriculum and the alignment of licensure examinations with academic programs.
“Hindi malulutas ang krisis sa edukasyon kung hindi natin palalakasin ang ating mga guro,” Gatchalian stressed, underscoring the crucial role of teachers in addressing the country’s education crisis.
The senator, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, assured that the upcoming 2026 education budget will prioritize teacher education reforms.
“As Senate Finance Chairperson, I will ensure that the 2026 education budget we hope to craft will also boost teacher education reforms,” he said.
The lawmaker emphasized that investing in teacher development is vital to improving the quality of education nationwide.
