SENATE TO TACKLE MEASURE ON CULTURAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS
THE SENATE Committees on Culture and the Arts, Local Government, Higher, Technical and Vocational Education and Finance will tackle the measure that pushes for the integration and mainstreaming of cultural education programs and activities in the National Education Program.
Senate Bill 242 or the proposed Cultural Education Program Act was filed by Senator Loren Legarda.
Under the measure, the country’s key educational agencies — the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authorit — will collaborate and work with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in formulating and implementing plans and programs that will integrate and mainstream Philippine arts and culture in the national education system.
The measure mandates the development and implementation of enhanced Special Program for the Arts curriculum with production and instructional resource materials.
The Cultural Education Program will also support the K to 12 Program particularly the subjects on heritage, culture and the arts through teacher training, resource materials and by formulating competencies for arts-related careers.
