SENATE APPROVES EXPANDED PSHS ACT

3 June 2025

ON MONDAY, the Senate approved the Expanded Philippine Science High School Act on third reading, aiming to extend the reach of the country’s premier science high school system and provide quality STEM education to more deserving Filipino students.

Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri, the bill’s sponsor, thanked his colleagues for their strong support. “I am grateful to the Senate for backing the Expanded Philippine Science High School Act, which will enable more students to access the Pisay brand of education,” Zubiri said during the session.

He also acknowledged the Philippine Science High School community, led by Executive Director Ronnallee Orteza, for their significant contributions to the bill’s development and defense throughout the legislative process.

“With this approval, I am optimistic that we will soon bring the Philippine Science High School system closer to STEM students nationwide,” Zubiri added.

The senator highlighted the bill’s potential to bolster the country’s science and innovation capacity by fostering future scientists, engineers, and critical thinkers from a young age. “We can empower our students to become bold innovators who will shape a better future for our country, starting in our schools,” he emphasized.

The bill now awaits its counterpart version from the House of Representatives before finalization and transmittal to the President for enactment into law.
