SENATE APPROVES 2025 PROPOSED BUDGET OF DEPED
THE Philippine Senate has approved the P783.74 bilion proposed budget of the Department of Education for fiscal year 2025.
Budget sponsor Senator Pia Cayetano defended the agency’s budget at the Senate on Thursday (07 Nov 2024).
Under the General Appropriations Bill, DepEd and its attached agencies shall receive an allocation of P793.740 billion, 3.99 percent higher over the agency’s budget under the General Appropriations Act in 2024.
According to DepEd, the approved budget will boost the agency’s five-point agenda under Education Secretary Sonny Angara. This covers conducive learning environment; efficient learning delivery; upskilled teachers; employable students; and raised achievement levels.
Moreover, DepEd said that various programs received significant boosts in funding, including Basic Education Facilities, Basic Education Curriculum, Early Language Literacy and Numeracy, Physical Fitness and School Sports, and Implementation of the Grant of Cash allowance, Hardship Pay, and Reclassification of Positions.
