SAN JUAN STUDENT ACHIEVERS GIVEN CASH INCENTIVES
TWENTY-ONE student achievers in the fields of sports and mathematics received financial incentives from the city government of San Juan.
Mayor Francis Zamora said the private and public school students from grade school to college received cash ranging from P3,000 to P58,000.
Among those honored by the city was Terrence Fortea, UP Fighting Maroons point guard.
“Natutuwa ako na napapanood ko si Terrence ngayon sa UAAP. Dati maliit pa lamang siya napapanood ko na siyang naglalaro dito sa ating San Juan Inter-Elementary basketball tournament at nakakitaan ko. Ngayon, isa na siyang star player ng UP,” Zamora said.
The mayor used to play for the De La Salle Green Archers and was the team captain when they won their back-to-back UAAP championships in 1998-1999.
De La Salle University student athlete Alisha Claire Del Campo received the biggest incentive — P58,000 —for her achievements as player for the school’s football team and as forward of the Philippine Women’s National Team – winning in the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championship and the Sea Games 2022 in Vietnam.
She was followed by Ivan Travis Cu, a Grade 7 student of Xavier School who got P50,000 for his achievements in the Asian Nations Cup Online Under 14 Open Chess Team Chamionship, Open Division, and the National Age Group Chess Championship Grand Finals in Bali Indonesia.
Eighteen of the 21 student achievers who received cash prizes were from San Juan City public schools who won international competitions in Sports, Math and Science.
“I am very proud of the achievements of our public school students here in San Juan City. This is a good indication that our investments in our public schools are paying off and that our batang San Juaneños are receiving the best education in the country,” Zamora said.
