QC LOCAL GOVERNMENT TO STRENGTHEN STUDENT SAFETY MEASURES

/ 30 January 2025

THE QUEZON City local government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all students following an incident involving a private school that conducted an unauthorized field trip.

Mayor Joy Belmonte emphasized that while the oversight of private schools primarily falls under the Commission on Higher Education and the Department of Education, the city will take a proactive approach to protect students and advocate for their well-being.

Meanwhile, the City Council will conduct an investigation in aid of legislation to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The safety of students is a matter that transcends jurisdictions. This investigation reflects our firm resolve to ensure that such incidents are thoroughly examined and that we take all necessary steps to prevent them from happening again,” Belmonte said.

Earlier, the Commission on Education announced it would issue a show-cause order to Bestlink College of the Philippines regarding the recent incident involving students on a field trip in Hermosa, Bataan.

The local government assured the public that it will remain transparent throughout the investigation.

“Findings will guide local policies and serve as recommendations to national agencies to improve their oversight mechanisms.”
