QC GOV’T PARTNERS WITH GIRL RISING FOR YOUTH EMPOWERMENT

/ 25 September 2021

THE QUEZON City government signed a partnership agreement with a US-based non-profit organization to empower the youth and enable them to start positive change in their communities.

“We forged this agreement with Girl Rising because I share their advocacy to empower our young people, especially girls, and rally them to become more productive citizens,” Mayor Joy Belmote said.

Girl Rising started the Explore More Program as part of its advocacy to inspire girls and help address prevalent stereotypes, disparities, and norms.

The program uses creative, multimedia toolkits that encourage participants to use their voices and initiate positive social action.

Under the agreement, public schools in QC can use the Explore More Program that includes a robust curriculum designed to capacitate girls and boys aged 11 to 15 with the skillsets they need to pursue their interests and passions, as well as to aspire for a future full of possibilities.

As of July 2021, 838 students from five public schools in Quezon City have participated in the program.

The deal also includes a detailed, easy-to-use Facilitator’s Guide and videos that inspire the exploration of one’s dreams and aspirations, themes of self-efficacy, participation in decision-making, positive attitudes towards gender equality, confidence, and dreaming big.

During School Year 2020-2021, Girl Rising conducted a virtual training of facilitators for the Explore More Program participated in by 55 Grade 10 teachers from Quezon City public schools.

“I have gained a new understanding and enjoy the sessions. Learning and knowing the different stories (of girls) will help inspire and encourage every person to change the world,” a participant shared.
