PUP STUDENTS RECEIVE DOST-ASTI GRANTS FOR COMPUTATIONAL RESEARCH

/ 16 November 2025

THREE research teams from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines College of Science have secured competitive undergraduate thesis grants from the Department of Science and Technology–Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST–ASTI) for projects focused on computational chemistry.
The grants were awarded to student groups whose studies integrate high-level computational modeling and molecular analysis to address health-related and biomedical challenges.
Among the funded proposals are projects on phage therapy against antibiotic-resistant bacteria, peptide-based ACE inhibitors, and anti-virulence peptide design targeting the monkeypox virus.
Through the grant, the student-researchers will utilize DOST–ASTI’s advanced computing resources, including the Computing and Archiving Research Environment, high-performance computing systems, and Science Cloud services.
PUP said the support strengthens its ongoing collaboration with national research institutions to advance scientific capability and innovation among young Filipino researchers.
The university added that the initiative aligns with its commitment to promoting impactful research tied to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals—particularly those on health, education, sustainable communities, and partnerships.
