THE PLAN to deploy police personnel in universities once face-to-face classes resume drew mixed reactions from netizens.

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Dionardo Carlos last week said that policemen will be deployed outside school premises to help with the implementation of minimum health standards.

Carlos said that the police will coordinate with the Commission on Higher Education.

However, some netizens questioned the wisdom of this undertaking.

“Kung ang goal nila is to implement minimum public health standards, e ‘di sana gawin din nila sa offices, parks, at malls. This is unnecessary. MEMAgawa lang na naman,” one said.

“Limited na nga lang ang school population because of the current situation tapos makikidagdag pa sa school population ang mga pulis. Lol, nice plan,” another quipped.

Some suggested that healthcare workers be deployed instead for a safer campus against Covid19.

CHED said that schools under Alert Levels 1,2, and 3 can resume limited face-to-face classes with 50 percent capacity.

Schools must have a high vaccination rate, retrofitted classrooms, and approval from the concerned local government unit.
