PNPA EXPANDS DRUG TESTING
ALL EMPLOYEES and cadets of the Philippine National Police Academy in Camp Castañeda, Silang, Cavite were subjected to drug testing after the academy found that one of its graduating cadets was positive for drug use.
One contractual employee tested positive in drug screening.
PNP chief Debold Sinas said that 1,065 personnel of the PNP Academy were tested for substance abuse by the PNP Crime Laboratory. This includes 817 cadets, 44 commissioned officers, 44 non-commissioned officers, 12 non-uniformed personnel and 148 job-order employees and service providers, composed of utility and mess hall workers, security guards, janitors, and barbers.
Meanwhile, Sinas shared that the cadet who tested positive for drug use identified his source.
Citing reports from PNPA Acting Director Police Brig Gen Rhoderick Armamento, Sinas said Cadet 1st Class [FIRST NAME] David told investigators that stay-in Mess Hall worker Dado Reyes, 25, was his source of drugs.
David admitted that he bought P3,000 worth of shabu from Dado.
PNPA officials led by PBGen Armamento, together with members of the Intelligence and Investigation Section and Tactics Group, collared Dado at the Mess Hall Quarters on January 5, 2021. Recovered from him were suspected drug paraphernalia including strips of aluminum foil with visible traces of white substance.
Dado was turned over to the Silang Municipal Police Station. He identified his source as Noel Miranda alias Bayabas.
Miranda, 28, was arrested in a follow-up anti-drug operation conducted by joint operatives of the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit and Silang Municipal Police Station at about 9 p.m. on January 5, 2021 at Barangay Lumil in Silang.
Sinas ordered the filing of criminal and administrative cases against all personnel involved.
