THE Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology held a three-day training on Communicating Volcano, Earthquake, and Tsunami Hazards for Junior High School teachers from August 1 to 3.

Teachers in South Cotabato, Koronadal City, Sultan Kudarat and Tacurong City joined the training.

DOST-PHIVOLCS said that it keeps its mission to provide timely, quality and socially-inclusive information and services for warning, disaster preparedness.

On the first day, Senior Science Research Specialist Lucille Rose Sanico discussed Laws and Frameworks and Child Rights Convention, while Science Research Specialist II Fatima Moncada talked about Understanding Hazards and Disasters.

PHIVOLCS Geologic Disaster Awareness and Preparedness Division Chief Dr. Ma. Mylene Villegas gave an overview of Plate Tectonics Theory and about Volcanoes, Volcanic Hazards, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Measures.

PHIVOLCS Director Teresito Bacolcol said the training will help the teachers know more about natural calamities.
