PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the opening of classes for the School Year 2024-2025 will proceed on Monday (29 July 2024).
PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the opening of classes for the School Year 2024-2025 will proceed on Monday (29 July 2024).
However, he acknowledged that some schools will not be able to start due to damage caused by Typhoon Carina.
“Ang pagpasok gawin ninyo hangga’t maaari kung kaya ninyong buksan that’s the usual ano. Hangga’t maaari open the schools and conduct classes but there are areas na hindi Málaga pwede,” Marcos said on Friday (26 July 2024).
The President emphasized that the decision to open classes on Monday (29 July 2024) will be left to the school officials.
“It would be up to the school to decide kung kaya o hindi. Siguro ‘yung iba mapipilitan, they will conduct classes outside of the school building makapagklase lang. Ganyan naman eh nasanay na tayo sa pandemic. Hahanapan natin ng paraan magkaroon pa rin ng pasok,” he said.
Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara mentioned earlier that some class openings would be postponed due to damaged classrooms.
According to DepEd data released on Thursday, a total of 90 schools were damaged, and 324 schools are being used as evacuation centers following Typhoon Carina’s onslaught.
Six regions have schools being used as evacuation centers: CAR, NCR, Region I, Region III, Region IV-A, and Region VI.
