ISINUSULONG ni Senador Manuel “Lito” Lapid ang panukala na isama sa asignaturang Physical Education sa mababa at mataas na paaralan ang pagtuturo ng paunang lunas o first aid.

Sa kanyang Senate Bill 1186 o ang proposed First Aid in School Act, sinabi ni Lapid na mahalaga ang kaalaman sa first aid upang makapagsalba ng buhay.

“Everyone must have knowledge of such (first aid) because most people will eventually find themselves in a situation which would need first aid skills for themselves or for other people. Simply, its benefits extend beyond one’s self,” pahayag ni Lapid sa kanyang explanatory note.

Batay sa datos ng Red Cross, nasa 16,000 tao sa buong mundo ang namamatay kada araw dulot ng pinsala na maaari namang maiwasan.

“Due to this, school children must be taught first aid primarily because its objectives according to some experts are to preserve life, prevent illness or injury becoming worse, relieve pain, if possible, promote recovery and protect the unconscious,” idinagdag pa ng senador.

Batay sa panukala, mandato ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon ang pagpapatupad ng isinusulong na batas.
