NUSP URGES COMELEC TO EXTEND VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE
THE NATIONAL Union of Students of the Philippines called on the Commission on Elections to extend the deadline of voter registration.
During the meeting of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms on Friday, NUSP submitted a position paper asking the electoral body to reconsider its earlier decision to stick to its given deadline for voter registration.
The group urged Comelec and lawmakers to extend the voter registration process for at least a month to accommodate those eligible voters who are at risk of losing their right to vote in the 2022 elections.
NUSP President Jandeil Roperos said that the registration should be extended at least until the end of October.
“This is still a sizable number of Filipinos that the Comelec needs to consider properly,” she said, citing that there are 12.1 million eligible voters who have not yet registered.
Earlier, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian has also called for the extension of voter registration.
