NOT ENOUGH INVESTMENTS IN EDUCATION AND NUTRITION – THINKTANK
AN EDUCATION sector think tank said that the Philippines does not invest enough in the education and nutrition of children.
The Philippine Business for Education said that the Philippines has low human capital unlike other countries.
PBeD cited data from the Global Hunger Index in 2019 wherein Filipinos ranked last in Programme for International Student Assessment in Math, Science, and Reading Results.
The think tank said that the country should invest more in human capital by helping secure employment, give children more access to education and address malnutrition.
“Investing in human capital has big payoffs. It increases the overall well-being, productivity, and economy of a country,” PBEd said.
PBEd Executive Director Love Basillote admitted that there is an educational crisis in the country.
A multisectoral approach is needed to address the crisis, PBEd said.
