NAGSIMULA na ang pagtanggap ng National Commission for Culture and the Arts at ng Cultural Center of the Philippines ng mga nominasyon para sa Orden ng mga Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ng Filipinas, 30 Hulyo.

Maaaring magsumite ng nominasyon sa alinman sa walong kategorya: arkitektura at alyadong sining, sayaw, disenyo, pelikula at sining-pamamalita, panitikan, musika, teatro, at sining-biswal.

Ayon sa Gabay para sa Nominasyon, nararapat taglayin ng mga Alagad ng Sining ang sumusunod na katangian:

1. Living artists who are Filipino citizens at the time of nomination and at the awarding, as well as those who died after the establishment of the award in 1972 but were Filipino citizens at the time of their death.
2. Artists who through the content and form of their works have contributed in building a Filipino sense of nationhood.
3. Artists who have pioneered in a mode of creative expression or style, thus, earning distinction and making an impact on succeeding generations of artists.
4. Artists who have created a substantial and significant body of works and/or consistently displayed excellence in the practice of their art form thus, enriching artistic expression or style.
5. Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through: a. Prestigious national and/or international recognition, such as the Gawad CCP para sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award, and NCCA Haraya Awards (Alab and Dangal) b. Critical acclaim and/or reviews of their works that has extensive reach of knowledge. c. Respect and esteem from peers

Ang Orden ng Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ang pinakamataas na parangal na ibinibigay ng pamahalaan para sa mga Filipinong nagpamalas ng hindi matatawarang kontribusyon sa larangan at sa pagpapaunlad ng maka-Filipinong sining. Ilan sa mga bantog na Pambansang Alagad ng Sining ay sina Ryan Cayabyab, Virgilio Almario, Bienvenido Lumbera, Kidlat Tahimik, Amelia Lapena-Bonifacio, Fernando Poe, Jr., at iba pa.
