EDUCATION under the new normal has been causing strains to teachers as they have to communicate not only to students but parents as well through Facebook messengers and group chats.

Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Secretary General Renato Reyes Jr. suggested  for the Department of Education to re-evaluate the system in a Facebook page post.

“Imagine the strain this has on teachers who are maintaining multiple GCs  (group chats) for both students and parents. How much of the teacher’s time is devoted to answering queries that can come at any time during the day?,” he said

“Also the strain on kids who have to keep up with class updates through multiple GCs,” Reyes added.

He also mentioned that DepEd should have guidelines for this since 7-year-old students are using Facebook for their school works.

“Kids as young as seven years old are opening FB accounts so they can use FB messenger and join FB groups for school. Are there existing DepEd guidelines for all of these?” Reyes asked.

With such structure, Reyes said schools and teachers should adjust for the students and experiences in online learning should be assessed and corresponding guidelines put in place.
