NCR MAYORS SEEK IATF APPROVAL RESTRICTING MINORS IN PUBLIC SPACES

NATIONAL Capital Region mayors formally submitted a resolution asking the Inter-Agency Task Force Against Covid19 to restrict the mobility and outdoor activities of minors aged 12 and below.
Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Benhur Abalos said the resolution was signed by the Metro Manila Council composed of all the 17 mayors of NCR.
“There is a concern that the mobility of minors 12 years old (and below) must be restricted in order to avoid and prevent their exposure, to or infection from the Covid19 virus in malls and other public places,” Abalos said.
“The mayors believe that coming up with a decision on the matter needs scientific and empirical data as well as recommendations from the health, epidemiological, and pediatric experts,” he added.
Children are currently allowed to move outdoors in NCR after it was placed under Alert Level 2. However, health experts feared the relaxed attitude might cause another Covid19 surge.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier urged local government units to consider imposing stricter policies that will restrict the entry of minors to public spaces such as shopping malls and restaurants.
He made the suggestion following reports a two-year-old boy tested positive for Covid19 after a mall visit.
