MORE THAN MOTHERHOOD STATEMENTS, ACTION NEEDED TO LIFT DISMAL STATE OF EDUCATION, SAYS SOLON
ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro welcomed the admission made by Vice President Sara Duterte on the dismal state of education in the country.
ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. France Castro welcomed the admission made by Vice President Sara Duterte on the dismal state of education in the country.
Still, she expressed displeasure on the solutions and measures offered by the Education Secretary.
“Generally, puro motherhood statements. Wala pang mga detalye, at iminumungkahi nga natin na tingnan ng Department of Education ang ating mga panukalang batas kaugnay doon sa education, benefits, salaries ng teachers, sa curriculum, etc.,” Castro said.
At the same time, she stressed the review on the K to 12 system is already long overdue.
“Nakalagay na sa batas na dapat after five years, nag-karoon ng oversight at review ang K to 12 program at ngayon lang talaga seryoso at sana seryosong nire-review. Kaya lang hindi yata kasama dito ang pagkokonsulta sa mga teachers na nasa ground at nag-i-implement ng review ng K to 12 program,” she added.
The solon admitted the senior high school system is not properly implemented.
“Dahil sa mga budget, walang mga kasangkapan na kailangan ng ating mga estudyante, at ang mga teachers ay generally, hindi napo-pondohan,” she noted.
Even the decongestion of the curriculum, according to the lawmaker, is not new at all.
“Matagal na nating sinasabi na congested ang curriculum. Ang warning lang natin sa Department of Education sa pagbabawas ng mga subjects sa curriculum, dapat isaalang-alang ang mga mahahalagang subjects,” she stressed.
