MAYORS from the National Capital Region are eyeing the possibility to restrict minors in shopping malls and other public places

Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año made the remark after a two-year-old boy tested positive for Covid19 during a mall visit this week.

“That’s very unfortunate. That’s why we are still reminding everyone to follow the public health protocols and for the parents to discern in bringing their kids to the mall to be careful and only if it’s necessary,” he said.

The DILG chief noted the Metro Manila Development Authority is also reviewing the age restrictions for minors to be allowed to go to the mall.

“The pandemic is far from over even if the Covid19 cases are low. (But) it’s within the authority of the LGU to put restrictions as the situation may call for,” he added.

Earlier, MMDA chairperson Benhur Abalos said minors are now permitted inside restaurants and malls after several areas were placed under Alert Level 2.

Abalos added Metro Manila mayors likewise agreed to allow intrazonal and interzonal travel for minors.
