MANILA SCHOOLS IMPLEMENT HEAT MITIGATION MEASURES AMID EL NIÑO: FOCUS ON UNINTERRUPTED LEARNING
SCHOOLS Division Office of Manila has issued a memorandum outlining measures to address the impact of the extreme heat caused by the El Niño phenomenon in public schools within the city.
According to Division Memorandum No. 123 s. 2024, while acknowledging the need for mitigation, schools are instructed to ensure uninterrupted learning.
The memorandum emphasizes that face-to-face classes should remain the default mode of instruction, with school principals retaining authority over class programming while maintaining accountability for learning outcomes.
In exceptional circumstances where suspension of face-to-face classes or transitioning to asynchronous learning is necessary, school principals have the discretion to make such decisions, underscoring their authority, responsibility, and accountability.
Furthermore, teachers and students are encouraged to wear more comfortable attire, in addition to their regular uniforms, to alleviate the discomfort caused by the heat within school premises.
