MANILA Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has declared the suspension of face-to-face classes in public and private schools on Wednesday (24 April 2024).

In a Facebook post, Manila Public Information Office said the suspension of classes is due to the forecasted danger heat index level of 43°C, citing the report from the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

“Schools are advised to shift to asynchronous classes,” it said.

Heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are risks associated with a heat index at a danger level of 42°C to 51°C, according to state weather bureau PAGASA.

It is advisable that people stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
