MANILA EYES SINGAPORE-STYLE URBAN FARMING INTEGRATION AT UNIVERSIDAD DE MANILA
MAYOR Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso of the manila city has announced plans to integrate agriculture and urban farming into the vocational and technical education programs of Universidad de Manila (UDM), drawing inspiration from Singapore’s Republic Polytechnic.
Moreno said the initiative was discussed during the city government’s weekly Directional Meeting with department heads, where he shared the plan with UDM President Dr. Ma. Felma Carlos-Tria.
The mayor explained that the idea stemmed from his recent visit to Republic Polytechnic in Singapore, where he observed how agriculture and urban farming are incorporated into technical and vocational education. He noted that the city aims to study how the program can be adapted and implemented in Manila through UDM.
As a next step, Moreno said the city government intends to connect UDM officials with their Singaporean counterparts to closely examine the program’s framework and best practices.
Moreno reiterated his administration’s commitment to strengthening education and addressing the minimum basic needs of Manileños, particularly the city’s youth. He stressed that the city government will continue working to improve public services and expand opportunities for Batang Maynila.
The proposed initiative is expected to complement Manila’s broader efforts on education, skills development, and sustainable urban initiatives.
