PINAMAMADALI ng grupo ng mga mambabatas sa liderato ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang pagtalakay sa mga panukala para sa pagpapatibay ng Unversity of the Philippines-Department of National Defense accord.

Sa kanilang sulat, hiniling ng Makabayan bloc kay House Majority Leader Ferdiomand Martin Romualdez na agad nang itakda ang pagtalakay sa House Bill 10171 upang maipasa sa ikatlo at pinal na pagbasa.

Layon ng panukala na amyendahan ang Republic Act 9500 o ang University of the Philippines Charter of 2008.

“We, the undersigned authors of teh House Bill 10171, have no wavered in our calls to uphold the UP-DND Accord nad institute a similar measure for all educational institution,” pahayag ng mga kongresista sa kanilang sulat kay Romualdez.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to stand up for human rights and defend civil liberties, most especially that of academic freedom of learning institutions across the country,” dagdag pa ng grupo.

Nanindigan ang mga mambabatas na kailangan nang maipasa ang panukala kasunod ng mga nakaraang pag-atake sa academic freedom tulad ng book-purging sa universities and colleges at ang pagpasok ng state agents sa mga campus.

“A victory for the protection of academic freedom of UP is a victory for human rights and civil liberties. This will pave the way for more to attain the academic freedom integral to the formation of holistic, conscientious and patriotic students that will serve the Filipino people,” pagbibigay- diin pa ng grupo.
