LFS DENOUNCES ‘HARASSMENT’ OF MEMBERS
THE LEAGUE of Filipino Students denounced the alleged red-tagging and harassment of its members on Saturday by men who identified themselves as members of the National Bureau of Investigation.
The group said that a member of its National Office in Cavite was visited at home by authorities who accused him of being a member of the New People’s Army. They threatened to arrest him on Monday.
Meanwhile, another LFS member who resides in Sorsogon was arrested for the same reason.
The group added that the police threatened to put the student under surveillance as well as other members of LFS at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
“The League of Filipino Students gravely denounces these rounds of attacks on our members! For 42 years, the League had been steadfast in fighting for the national democratic aspirations of the Filipino people and opposing imperialist plunder and aggressions in the country. With this, we have been baselessly tagged as terrorists or rebels. This shameful and desperate tactic of the regime aims to suppress critical thinking and dissent,” the group said on Facebook.
“The League will remain unfazed by these threats and is prepared to answer these militarists attacks head on! The League will be taking necessary legal actions to hold those accountable for putting the lives of our members in danger,” it added.
The group said that it will continue its advocacy despite the attacks.
