LEYTE SOLON PUSHES FOR STANDARDIZED CEILING HEIGHT IN DEPED CLASSROOMS
LEYTE Fourth District Representative Richard Gomez is pushing for the standardization of ceiling height in Department of Education classrooms to improve air circulation and reduce overheating.
In his House Bill 10504, or the proposed DepEd Classroom Ceiling Standardization Act of 2024, Gomez aims to address a critical aspect of school infrastructure by mandating a ceiling height of four meters.
“Alam natin na may standards na ang DepEd pagdating sa classroom specifications,” Gomez said.
However, he stressed that with climate change and rising global temperatures, it is crucial to update these standards. Raising the ceiling height from 2.7 meters to four meters would help alleviate overheating, creating a more conducive learning environment for both students and teachers.
Gomez added that quality school infrastructure is key to achieving national educational objectives. By redesigning and standardizing ceiling heights, DepEd would demonstrate its commitment to providing safe, secure, and conducive learning spaces for all students, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status.
He noted that the classroom environment significantly impacts students’ ability to learn, as overheating can impair concentration and cognitive function.
