LAWMAKERS SEEK TO ESTABLISH PH CONSTRUCTION WORKERS ACADEMY

/ 29 September 2023

AT LEAST three lawmakers are pushing for the establishment of the Philippine Construction Workers Academy.

Representatives Edwin Gardiola, Romeo Momo and Anthony Rolando Golez Jr. filed House Bill 9281 or the proposed Philippine Construction Workers Academy Act.

In their explanatory note, the lawmakers said that construction workers are the backbone of the nation’s development. Thus, it is necessary that construction workers possess the skills and training necessary to craft top-tier roads.

“The quality of the structures they build directly influences the quality of life experienced by our fellow citizens who rely on these essential facilities,” the lawmakers said.

The bill mandates the establishment of specialized construction training centers in each region, starting with a pilot center in Lipa, Batangas.

The centers will be operated by private partners under the supervision of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.

“Our ultimate goal is to elevate the skills of the Philippine construction workforce, thereby contributing significantly to our nation’s infrastructure development and modernization,” the lawmakers said.
