LAWMAKERS SEEK TO ESTABLISH NBI ACADEMY
SEVERAL lawmakers filed a measure that seeks to establish an academy for aspiring investigation agents.
House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, together with Magsasaka Partylist Representative Argel Joseph Cabatbat filed House Bill 10266 or the proposed National Bureau of Investigation Academy Act.
The lawmakers said the academy will be the training ground for aspiring NBI agents.
“The envisioned Academy with the state-of-the-art equipment and training facilities will also benefit the members of other law enforcement agencies who may choose to take advance courses on scientific criminal investigation and crime detection,” the lawmakers said in their explanatory note.
The academy can also serve as an international training facility where international law enforcement agencies may be invited to strengthen partnerships, bolster security relations and exchange best practices in addressing transnational crimes.
The NBI Academy will be established in the province of Marinduque, which, the lawmakers believe, is the most ideal place since it was declared as the most peaceful province by the Philippine National Police.
“The establishment of the NBI Academy will ultimately benefit the country. Members of the law enforcement agencies whom underwent training in the NBI Academy will definitely contribute to the swift and fair administration of justice, maintain public order, and contribute to a stable and more developed economy,” the two lawmakers said.
