CAVITE Representatives Lani Mercado-Revilla and Ramon Jolo Revilla, along with Agimat Party-list Rep. Bryan Revilla, sought an inquiry, in aid of legislation, on recommendations of various groups to revert to the old schedule of the Academic Calendar for Basic Education.
In filing House Resolution 940, the lawmakers said they wanted to assess the most suitable opening of classes for K to 12 students.
They explained that Covid19 disrupted classes in 2020 which compelled the Department of Education to move the opening of classes to October from June.
They stressed the need for a thorough assessment of the implementation of previous policies on local school calendar, including but not limited to cost-benefit analysis, available data gathering and analysis, a wider consultation process relative to plans of stakeholders on moving the opening of classes from August to September or back to June.
The lawmakers also cited in the resolution that reverting to the June to March calendar is more viable as the dry months from April to May brings extreme heat.
