LAWMAKER WANTS TO INCLUDE PROPER ROAD USE EDUCATION IN K-12 CURRICULUM
ZAMBALES 1st District Representative Jefferson Khonghun filed a measure that will educate students on proper road use by incorporating it into the K to 12 curriculum.
Khonghun said House Bill 7271 or the Proper Road Use Education Act will inculcate the value of proper use of roads during the formative years of children to develop discipline early.
The measure also aims to teach young students the value of knowing proper road courtesy.
The lawmaker said road safety education is vital for people of all ages.
With the number of road accidents involving children and youth, he stressed that it is time that road safety is given more priority.
“Road traffic sign injuries are the leading cause of death among people aged between 15 and 29 years,” Khonghun said in his explanatory note.
The lawmaker cited studies that showed lack of discipline while driving is the main cause of traffic in the Philippines.
“Today, we see drivers who drive with complete disregard of traffic rules and regulations and these drivers are not even ignorant of traffic rules,” he added.
