LAWMAKER SEEKS TO INTEGRATE BANGSAMORO HISTORY, CULTURE, AND IDENTITY IN BASIC EDUCATION
SENATOR Robinhood Padilla has filed a bill to integrate Bangsamoro history, culture, and identity into Philippine history courses in basic education to ensure a more inclusive curriculum that reflects the experiences of all Filipinos.
Padilla filed Senate Bill 2939, highlighting the 2019 passage of the Bangsamoro Organic Law, which secures the identity and future of Muslim Filipinos and allows for meaningful self-governance.
“In order to ensure accurate instruction of Bangsamoro history, this bill outlines an approach for the creation of courses focusing on BARMM history, and it aims to foster greater interest among the youth to understand the Muslim-Christian dynamics in the country, building a culture of respect and national unity,” Padilla said.
Under the bill, the Department of Education will include Bangsamoro history, culture, and identity in Philippine history curricula. The content will cover the roots of conflict in Mindanao, Muslim-Christian dynamics, and the Bangsamoro’s desire for self-governance. It will also promote values of respect, sensitivity, and empathy toward diverse cultures and ethnic identities, contributing to a just and lasting peace.
