ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro on Friday proposed shifting to blended learning and adjusting classes to shield students from the punishing heat.

She made the proposals following reports that 145 students in San Jose National High School in Mindoro Occidental were affected by heat during the power outage.

“Ang tindi talaga ng epekto ng init sa panahong ito. Kaya need na magpatupad na ng mga measures to ease the situation,” Castro said in a Viber message to The POST.

The lawmaker recommended shifting to blended learning and holding classes in the morning from 5 a.m. until 10 a.m. and afternoon classes from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

With this schedule, Castro said there will be health breaks between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

“The Department of Education should also mind the situation of teachers especially those with health issues,” she added.

Castro also proposed reducing class size and gradually returning to the June to March school year.
