LAWMAKER ON NATIONAL ICT MONTH: BRIDGE THE DIGITAL DIVIDE NOW

/ 21 June 2025

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian marked National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Month with a strong call for government action to urgently address the country’s persistent digital divide.

“We cannot allow digital inequality to persist while students struggle with connectivity, businesses fall behind, and government services remain inaccessible in many parts of the Philippines,” he said.

“As we observe National ICT Month, we must highlight the urgent need to expand internet access across the country.”

Gatchalian urged the Department of Information and Communications Technology to accelerate digital transformation, particularly in underserved and remote communities, where internet connectivity remains a major challenge.

“Universal access to reliable internet is critical not only for economic growth but also for strengthening education, disaster response, and national security,” he emphasized. “Mas kumokonek ang buhay kapag maayos at mabilis ang internet.”

He has long advocated for stronger digital infrastructure and equitable access to technology as a key part of national development.

Bridging the digital gap, Gatchalian said, is essential to empowering Filipinos in today’s increasingly connected world.
