LAWMAKER HONORS 772 GRADUATES OF NFTI CLASS MANDASIG
SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go paid tribute to the sacrifices and heroism of the country’s firefighters during the graduation ceremony of the National Fire Training Institute (NFTI) Class Mandasig at Camp Vicente Lim in Calamba City, Laguna.
Addressing the 772 graduates, Go shared his personal experiences witnessing the hardships of firefighters as frontliners in calamities.
“I personally go to fire-stricken areas and other disaster zones across the country. I have seen the sacrifices of our firefighters. Your lives are constantly at risk, and for that, I am deeply grateful,” he said.
The senator praised firefighters as unsung heroes who silently but bravely safeguard communities.
“Behind every fire prevented, every life saved, and every community kept safe—you are there. Quiet yet strong. Never asking for recognition, but always ready to sacrifice,” Go added.
Go emphasized, however, that courage alone is not enough. He reiterated the government’s responsibility to ensure that uniformed personnel receive proper support.
He cited the salary increase for military and uniformed personnel during the Duterte administration and highlighted his own legislative efforts, including Senate Bill No. 684, which seeks full scholarships for the children of uniformed personnel who die in the line of duty, and Republic Act No. 12177 or the Free Legal Assistance to MUPs Act, which provides free legal support to uniformed personnel facing duty-related cases.
He also pushed for the BFP Modernization Act of 2021 or RA 11589, which allocates funds for modern fire equipment and specialized training.
“Bravery is not enough. You need proper equipment, quality training, and government support. As a legislator, I lead efforts in the Senate to promote your welfare,” Go said.
Encouraging the graduates to uphold the values of their class name Mandasig, Go reminded them to embody resilience, compassion, and honor in service.
“The uniform you wear symbolizes the trust of the people. Guard it well. Serve with integrity, even when no one is watching,” he underscored.
Go concluded by reminding the firefighters that their sacrifice is never in vain.
“Every life you save is proof that your service matters. Wear your uniform with pride, and serve with dignity and honor,” he said.
