LAWMAKER FILES BILL TO LAUNCH NATIONAL YOUTH ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY PROGRAM

/ 27 March 2026

SENATOR Mark Villar is pushing for the creation of a National Youth Environmental Advocacy and Sustainability Program (NYEASP) aimed at empowering young Filipinos to take an active role in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

In his Senate Bill 1882, Villar highlighted the pressing environmental challenges facing the Philippines today.

“It has become of paramount importance to empower the younger generation to actively engage in environmental advocacy and sustainable practices, as they will be most affected in the future,” Villar said in his explanatory note.

The proposed NYEASP seeks to provide a platform for youth participation in environmental initiatives, nurturing awareness about responsible natural resource management while harnessing the collective energy of young Filipinos to build a more resilient nation.

The program envisions creating a nationwide network of environmentally conscious youth ready to take concrete actions, volunteer their time and talent, and advocate for sustainable practices in their communities.

Villar emphasized that the bill represents an investment not only in the environment but also in the capabilities and potential of the Filipino youth, ensuring that the next generation is equipped to lead the country toward a sustainable future.
