SENATOR Mark Villar filed a measure providing educational benefits to children of members of the uniformed personnel of law enforcement agencies of the government.
Villar’s Senate Bill 1624 or the proposed Uniformed Personnel Educational Assistance and Benefits Act of 2022 includes uniformed members of Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protections, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Philippine Coast Guard, National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, and Bureau of Corrections.
The senator explained casualty in the line of duty is a normal matter to the performance of their mandate.
However, their families suffer in silence bearing in mind the death of their uniformed loved one had contributed to the wellness of their country.
“The Philippines should be a government that remembers the contribution of its servants,” Villar stressed in his explanatory note.
Thus, he said uniformed personnel must be assured their loved ones, especially their offspring, can depende on the government that it will provide in case of unfortunate events during their service.
The lawmaker stressed the need for the government to return the favor when life was given to protect the country by providing educational scholarships to the surviving children or beneficiaries of government personnel.
“This is the least we can do for the sacrifices of our fallen heroes,” Villar said.
