LAWMAKER BATS FOR ESTABLISHMENT OF HIGH SCHOOL FOR CREATIVE ARTS
PARAÑAQUE City 2nd District Rep. Joy Myra Tambunting has filed a measure seeking to establish a Philippine High School for Creative Arts System.
Under House Bill 7600 or the proposed Philippine High School for Creative Arts System Act, students with considerable potential in the fields of performing arts, creative writing, visual arts and applied arts will be given full scholarship.
Tambunting said that there are only two public high schools in the country that specialize in arts — Philippine High School for the Arts in Laguna and the Bataan High School for the Arts.
“The establishment of the Philippine High School for Creative Arts System will greatly help in bringing the arts closer to many talented and deserving young Filipinos across the country,” the lawmaker said in her explanatory note.
Students admitted under the PHSCA system will be trained under a special curriculum oriented in the fields of architecture and allied arts, cinema, dance, dramatic arts, literary arts, music, visual arts, design, digital fabrication and new media, along with financial literacy, entreprenuership skills, and basic knowledge on intellectual property rights.
The PHSCA system shall be administratively attached to the Department of Education in consultation with the National Commission on Culture and the Arts for program implementation.
