LAWMAKER BATS FOR CREATION OF CALOOCAN CITY HS FOR THE ARTS
A BILL that seeks to create a high school for the arts in Caloocan City was filed by Rep. Mary Mitzi Cajayon-Uy.
In filing House Bill 240, Cajayon-Uy, who represents the city’s 2nd district, said
that there is a need to encourage and develop the artistic talent of the youth.
“Currently, the arts are considered as minor subjects in the country’s basic education curricula and there are little to no programs that allow the youth to explore and advance in their chosen field in the arts,” she said in her explanatory note.
The measure mandates the establishment of the Caloocan High School for the Arts.
Under the bill, the school will have an advisory board composed of the city mayor as chairperson and the school director as vice chairperson.
Once enacted into law, the secretary of Education shall immediately include the operationalization of the school. The funding for the school shall be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
