LAWMAKER BACKS STRICTER METRO MANILA CURFEW TO PROTECT MINORS

/ 8 April 2026

SENATOR Sherwin Gatchalian has expressed support for the stricter enforcement of curfew hours in Metro Manila, saying the measure is crucial to safeguarding minors from potential harm.

Gatchalian endorsed the plan of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to impose tighter curfew restrictions on minors and unsupervised individuals found on the streets beyond 10:00 p.m.

According to the senator, risks to young people remain high when they are allowed to roam freely late at night, particularly in densely populated urban areas.

“The continued exposure of minors to danger in the late hours of the night is a serious concern. Strengthening curfew enforcement is a necessary step to reduce these risks,” Gatchalian said.

He emphasized that protecting minors must remain a top priority for authorities, noting that stronger enforcement can help curb exposure to crime, exploitation, and other dangers.

Gatchalian added that promoting youth safety also supports broader efforts to maintain peace, order, and cleanliness in the region.

He noted that stricter curfew implementation would not only help shield minors but also foster greater public discipline and contribute to safer communities.

The DILG earlier signaled plans to coordinate with local government units and law enforcement agencies to ensure consistent implementation of curfew regulations across Metro Manila.
