KABATAAN BLAMES DEPED FOR ‘MAJOHA’ INCIDENT
THE KABATAAN Party-list blamed the Department of Education for teenagers’ lack of knowledge in Philippine history.
This came after a video of the teenage contestants of reality show Pinoy Big Brother went viral.
The teenage contestants were asked what acronym was used to identify the three Filipino martyr priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora. The contestants answered “MaJoHa” instead of “GomBurZa.”
Netizens were enraged with the contestants’ answers and urged that they take history lessons again.
The Department of Education said that it is “unfair” to put the blame on them for the incident.
However, the Kabataan party-list said that the incident is a result of DepEd’s removal of Philippine history in the K-12 curriculum and replacing it with Asian history.
They also fact-checked DepEd’s claim and rallied for the return of the subject of Philippine history in Grade 7.
