THE JAPANESE Embassy in Manila has extended the application deadline for the 2026 Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship – Research Category – to May 30.

This extension applies only to the research scholarship, as applications for the undergraduate, specialized training, and college of technology categories closed on May 23.

The MEXT Research Scholarship allows qualified Filipinos to pursue independent research for 18 to 24 months under the supervision of a Japanese professor. All academic fields are welcome, but applicants must secure a prospective adviser from a Japanese university.

Interested applicants are encouraged to visit university websites to identify potential supervisors. While a professor’s acceptance is not guaranteed, those who pass the initial screening may contact them directly.
