ISINUSULONG ni Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez ang pagtatayo ng College of Medicine sa University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines.

Sa House Bill 8123, iginiit ni Rodriguez ang pangangailangan ng panibagong high-quality medical school sa Region 10 para sa mga deserving at qualified students na walang sapat na kakayahan para makapag-aral sa pribadong medical schools.

Sa datos, ang USTP ay nabuo sa pagsasama ng Mindanao University of Science and Technology sa Cagayan de Oro City at Misamis Oriental State College of Agriculture and Technology sa bayan ng Claveria.

Ang dalawang campus ay kapwa matatagpuan sa Norther Mindanao na itinuturing na gateway sa Mindanao at may strategic locational advantage sa institusyon para sa pagsasanay at pag-develop ng mgg estudyante.

“In order to fully realize the potential of the USTP, the University needs to have a College of Medicine,” pahayag ni Rodriguez sa kanyang explanatory note.

“A College of Medicine in the USTP will provide excellent medical education and training to potential doctors. This will also address the shortage of physicians in the region,” dagdag pa ni Rodriguez.

Batay sa panukala, magkakaloob ang unibersidad ng mga programa para sa mahihirap subalit deserving na estudyante para makapag-aral.

“No student shall be denied admission to the College by reason of sex, religion, cultural or community affiliation or ethnic origin,” diin pa sa panukala.
