IMPROVING K TO 12 IS CRUCIAL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE — SENATOR
SENATOR Juan Edgardo Angara on Monday said a review of the K to 12 system can proceed alongside with the proposed establishment of the Congressional Commission on Education.
Angara explained that the two proposed acts seek to reform Philippine basic education.
“And it’s important when we reform K to 12 we see it as a component part of the whole education system as well as the economy as a whole,” Angara said.
“We have a young population that is in need of skills and learning and despite the passage of Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act or the free college law, many still do not make it that far, which is why improving K12 is crucial for our young people,” he added.
Meanwhile, Senator-elect Francis Escudero said that the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 or the K to 12 Act itself mandates a review in order to see its implementation, efficacy, viability and sustainability.
“It’s actually about time. This is especially true given that we are reeling from the effects of a worldwide pandemic that gravely affected the education of the Filipino youth as well as their mental health,” Escudero said.
