HOUSE TO CONDUCT INQUIRY ON BASIC EDUCATION LEVEL’S PREPAREDNESS FOR SY 2021-2022

/ 1 August 2021

PARANAQUE City Rep. Joy Myra Tambunting filed a resolution directing the appropriate House committee to conduct an inquiry to assess the preparedness of Basic Education Institutions to conduct classes for School Year 2021-2022.

In her House Resolution 1936, Tambunting aims to create programs and activities that will improve the delivery of quality education through blended learning and other alternative delivery modes.

The lady solon said the shift to blended learning due to the Covid19 pandemic has been a great challenge to both learners and educators.

“Despite moving the opening of classes at a later date, educators still found it difficult to cope and meet deadlines for the delivery of modules to students,” Tambunting said in her resolution.

She further said students also found difficulty accessing synchronous sessions for various reasons which include the lack of device, electricity and/or internet connection.

“Learners, parents, and guardians alike reported that blended learning has been physically, mentally, and emotionally taxing for the learners. Blended learning and the lack of interaction with peers have been reported to have caused depression in several learners,” she added.

Tambunting further stressed that due to challenges encountered by the learners, parents, guardian, teaching and non-teaching personnel, there is an immediate need to assess the effectiveness of blended learning and to extensively address challenges encountered during the conduct of classes using alternative delivery modes for School Year 2020-2021.
