HOUSE PROBE ON CENSORSHIP AGAINST TOMASINOWEB SOUGHT
KABATAAN Party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel is seeking an inquiry regarding the censorship and threats against TomasinoWeb and violations of students’ rights at the University of Santo Tomas.
Manuel filed House Resolution 1633 which highlights the repression faced by TomasinoWeb, including the forced removal of a photo album and threats of non-accreditation, leading to the resignation of the organization’s adviser.
It also sheds light on the challenges faced by student councils in upholding their autonomy and engaging in discussions on national issues.
The solon said the actions taken by UST Office for Student Affairs officials against students and student organizations undermine the democratic rights and freedoms of Filipino students.
“This investigation is crucial to hold those responsible for these violations to account,” Manuel stressed.
The lawmaker assured that they will continue to defend the rights of students and youth in the country, and will continue to push for accountability and justice in cases of censorship and threats against student organizations and individuals.
