HOUSE PROBE OF OFFENSIVE MODULES PUSHED
BAGUIO City Rep. Mark Go wants an investigation in aid of legislation of the printing of the self-learning modules that allegedly discriminated against Igorots.
Go filed House Resolution 1554 to direct the Committees on Basic Education and Culture and on Indigenous Peoples to conduct the inquiry.
“Over the course of the past few weeks, my office has been receiving messages and comments about the erroneous and discriminatory statements in the self-learning materials of elementary and high school students,” Go said.
“As the duly elected Representative of Baguio City, it is my duty to uphold the Constitution in recognizing, respecting and protecting the rights of the indigenous cultural communities,” he added.
The lawmaker said that including offensive statements in learning modules is unacceptable.
“This will have a negative impact on our society and will gravely compromise the values of our youth,” he added.
Go called on all educators and personnel of the Department of Education to stand at the forefront of eliminating all forms of discrimination against indigenous peoples and indigenous cultural communities.
The DepEd earlier reported that it has recalled the offensive modules.
