HOUSE PANEL APPROVES BILLS CONVERTING AND RENAMING SUCs
THE COMMITTEE on Higher and Technical Education at the House of Representatives approved several bills converting and renaming some state universities and colleges.
The committee chaired by Baguio City Rep. Mark Go passed HB 9924, which seeks to convert the Bataan Peninsula State University Bagac Extension Campus in Bataan into a regular campus of the BPSU.
Bataan 2nd District Rep. Jose Enrique ‘Joet’ Garcia III who authored the bill said that the conversion will augment the capacity and resources of the campus to provide quality education.
The panel also approved HB10170 that will rename the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Camarines Sur to Gov. Luis R. Villafuerte University of Agriculture.
Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund ‘LRay’ Villafuerte Jr. said his father was the longest serving governor of Camarines Sur.
“He also served three terms in the House of Representatives as one of its most prolific and passionate legislators. His unrelenting dedication in championing the agriculture and education sector is shown in his active participation as CBSUA’s Board Member until his demise on Sept. 8, 2021,” he said.
He said the bill intends to honor his father’s memory and advocacy.
