HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES URGED TO CONDEMN ARREST OF UP PROFESSOR
THE MAKABAYAN bloc at the House of Representatives filed House Resolution 774 condemning the arrest of University of the Philippines professor and unionist Melania Flores.
The group led by House Deputy Minority leader and ACT Teachers Party-list Rep. France Castro said there were lapses and blatant disregard of procedures in the arrest.
It urged the House of Representatives to condemn the illegal arrest and other human rights violations allegedly committed by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
The group said the arrest was made in blatant violation of the accord between the university and the Department of the Interior and Local Government Accord signed in 1992.
The accord prohibits agents of the PNP and the Department of National Defense from entering the UP premises without first informing university officials.
